Actualize is an online software engineering bootcamp based in Chicago that offers part-time and full-time bootcamp options. Instructors with professional educational experience teach students full stack web development including Ruby, Rails, JavaScript, VueJS, SQL, and Git. The Online Live classes are conducted in real time with video conferencing. Actualize has a deeply integrated “Job Hacking” curriculum focused on the personal branding and networking skills necessary to land a new job, which Actualize feels is just as important as learning to code.

To apply, students can submit an application via the website, then go through a series of two interviews with an admissions advisor. There are no coding challenges, but students must complete 4 weeks of prework before the program starts.

After the program, students have the option to join its unique Career Support program, which contains additional training for Job Hacking, a job accountability group, and team projects to add to one’s portfolio.

    Really good experience

I looked at a few different bootcamps before choosing Actualize. Ultimately, I chose it because it allowed me to keep my current job while doing this class. Even though it was a lot of work to keep my job and go to bootcamp, I was still able to learn a ton and it was very rewarding.

    I did it !

I am proof that this school is awesome. I came in with close to no previous coding experience, and I built a full stack web application from scratch that I am extremely proud of. This course is tough, and fast and it will kick you in the pants, but it works. The teachers, teaching assistants and the CEO of Actualize have heart. They care about their students, and are invested in their success. In addition to a curated curriculum, this is what sets them apart. Thank you!

    Actualize is Actually Amazing

My teacher was Josh Nixon, who besides from being a funny guy, and all around amazing person, also knows everything that there is to know about code. There was never a time that I would ask questions, and not be able to get an accurate, detailed answer from him. The flow of the course is a bit fast-paced, but with the help of the amazing T.A.'s and Josh, I was able to overcome any difficulty that I had when attending this course.

    The perfect part-time bootcamp

Being able to learn at Actualize while also having a day job and/or a life outside of class is an incredible boon. You can learn in a great environment with excellent instructors while not feeling like you can't escape it. After the 12 week course I feel like I've found my calling and I can't wait to continue to learn in the apprenticeship program.

    It’s Okay, But Pricey

Actualize boasts that it’s a part-time bootcamp with an apprenticeship. It is part time, but compared to other part-time bootcamps, the curriculum is light. It’s hard work, if you’re working full time. A lot of students quit their jobs, or are working part-time. There aren’t any tests, and no one gets kicked out, which is nice. The apprenticeship is misleading. It’s also part-time, and isn’t very well run. Some of the projects are iffy and are never actually used, the team leads only have ...

    Awesome Experience

After researching and speaking with a few different bootcamps I decided to enroll at Actualize because of the way they were set up and because of what they offer. The classes were conducted online via zoom chat, which to be honest, was a bit disappointing to me when I first found out. However, even after the first class I realized that I would not be missing out on anything that I might have gained from an in-person-type class.

I found the structure of the classes very helpful.. ...

    Excellent Preparation for Any Job

When I decided to sign up for Actualize I had two primary concerns:

    1. Will the skills I learn be outdated in a year?

    2. Will I actually learn what it takes to start a new career in a more technical field?

Actualize was able to qualm these fears by doing one thing that I believe is the greatest part about Actualize: teaching you how to think like a developer. Now I am a fairly skeptical person so if someone told this to me ...

    Online Development Program

I'm just finishing up the online class portion of my time with Actualize and getting ready to start my apprenticeship with the school and as many before me has said, this really was a life-changing experience that went beyond learning how to become a software developer.

    The Classroom Environment:

One of the main reasons I chose Actualize is because of the live teaching envrironment. For me, this was key. I have worked with other bootcamps that didn't of...

    Very Challenging but Highly Rewarding!

After deciding I wanted to learn to code and reviewing the options of coding bootcamps in Chicago, I am so happy that Actualize Coding Bootcamp had everything to offer that would fit my life.  I loved the availability of a part-time bootcamp held during evening hours.  I don't know of any other bootcamp that has this schedule. Even though it's part-time, the option is there to come in early and spend more time working if needed.

I also loved the fact that the instructors are ski...

    "Actualize is awesome! "

I really enjoyed my time at Actualize bootcamp! It was perfect because the classes were at nights on weekdays and all day Sunday. In this bootcamp compared to others, there was deep instruction before learning a new topic, and then we could work on the exercises. All of the teachers are fantastic, especially the professor I had named Peter Jang. He was always there for us and was so knowledgable, he could de bug our code in a matter of seconds if we got stuck while also explaining ho...

How do you get a job after coding bootcamp if you have no relevant, real-world work experience? Only 1.4% of bootcampers have worked as developers in the past, but most career-changers have little – if any– client experience when they start looking for a developer job. Some bootcamps help students overcome this hurdle by offering opportunities to work for the bootcamp itself, or with rea...
