UW Coding Boot Camp

This course was highly effective getting me up to speed on full stack web application development. Prior to enrolling in the Bootcamp I started a new position leading a Web Application development project based on React and was very behind on how it works because I am not a software developer. However, following this course I was making impactful improvements to our web application and was even able to push updates in production. 

The teaching staff was easy to work with and knowledgeable. At times the course moved a little fast for me, but a big part of that was me working a highly demanding job while going through the course. You will need to attend every class or watch the videos, do almost all of the homework, and commit a good amount of time to studying and completing the coursework. This is not a cake walk and you will need to apply yourself! I recommend this course for anyone interested in learning web application regardless of your current skill level. The course starts at base level - as in no software skill at all - and builds up. Initially the course was too slow for me as I am proficient with Python, but then quickly surpassed my abilities and pushed me to learn many new technologies and coding methods.

Additionally, I am a veteran and paid for this course using the GI Bill. That process was 100% seamless and I never had to request assistance from the VA or the school's veteran's group.

This bootcamp was an amazing experience! Joe and his TA team are highly knowledgeable and extremely dedicated to students' success. The pace is fast and the program does require a lot of work outside of class, but the payoff is definitely worth it. The program highly encourages collaboration, so much so that I left feeling that I'd made connections with a number of my classmates despite being a 100% remote program. I'm truly blown away by the amount I learned in three months, and extremely grateful for the amount of support I received throughout the program.

I have signed up for UW Full Stack coding bootcamp in March 2020 when COVID shut down everything, it turned into online program. It was a little bit disappointment on my end at first because while trying take care of my family it was very hard to juggle all. But our instructor Anthony Brown was very supportive, and the class was part time. It was manageable on my end. What we learned from Anthony is a great foundation of how to handle the coding problems. And the content is well built so that you end up with a good portfolio to showcase the skills you learned. Triology education I strongly believe does a good job providing support in means of creating a learning environment from many ways such as there are so many talks about tech and interviewing. And you are also supported with their career advisors. They give instructions on how to write your resume and apply to jobs. 

I had some reservations about attending this bootcamp when I first found it due to some reviews I found elsewhere. But ultimately, this was an incredible experience. The instructors and TAs and support staff that I interacted with were all excellent and clearly cared about the students learning.

The pace is fast and you definitely will be challenged, but if you put the work in and use the resources they provide, then you will be successful. I would recommend this course to anyone looking to jump into web development.

I want to preface this buy saying this Bootcamp is a lot of work, and you really only get out what you put in! The instructor and the TA's are there to help you when you get truly stuck or need a good shove to help you get through it all though and they really want to see you succeed because they have all been when you are starting out at! I want to give a special thank you to Ben Vaagen, he was the TA for almost all the groups I was in and really helped me to understand that I could get through this course and make something of the knowledge i have gained to go and make a career of my new skills, he was an amazing help through it all. I also want to say that John Young is an amazing instructor who really tries to give you the tools to get you on the path of becoming a great self-sustaining developer! I definitely recommend this class but please before you take this class try some coding on your own and make sure you enjoy it at least a little because this is a huge investment of both time and money.  I knew that I would apply myself accordingly to ensure I would digest the material to the best of my ability but I also knew that regardless of one’s credentials it’s easy to get lost in the sea of applicants.  This program offers a component that assists students with crafting the appropriate marketing materials, course assignments that transfer into a portfolio, free career focused workshops, direct exposure to industry professionals, contact with hiring companies and to me these pieces are essential.   As someone completely new to the industry I didn’t have a clue where or how to begin looking for an opportunity after schooling, other than just going to a company website and applying.  Turns out that’s what thousands of others are doing so having a dedicated team to help with that journey is incredibly valuable.  If you opt to take advantage of this service be sure to work on the Career Service milestones throughout the program so that you’re ready to really utilize their help upon graduation.   

In addition to Career Services, the UW Coding Bootcamp program provides several tools to help with all challenges that come with entering into this career path; tutors, a VERY support instructional team, experienced industry instructor, but all of those resources are null if you don’t apply yourself accordingly.  This program is a HUGE commitment, especially if coding is completely foreign to you.  The pace of the class and the amount of content covered over a short period of time requires an incredible amount of studying outside of the class.   I probably spent a minimum of 25hrs a week of independent study and I just barely kept my head above water.   The instructional team is amazing but there’s just so much to learn in a condensed amount of time that it’s very easy to fall behind. 

In summary, I highly recommend the UW Coding Bootcamp because of all the benefits and resources for students that go beyond the program curriculum.   However, if you do chose this coding bootcamp be prepared to dedicate a minimum of 20hrs a week to the class in order to be successful.
