To help graduates land better-paying cyber roles, Coding Temple’s Cybersecurity Bootcamp now includes rigorous Certified Ethical Hacking (CEH) certification training. Babatunde Jimoh, a Cybersecurity Instructor at Coding Temple, explains the importance of CEH and CompTIA Security+ certifications. Find out how Coding Temple is prepared to help students successfully pass the intensive CEH exam, and what students will be able to do with their CEH certification.

Coding Temple has been offering a Cybersecurity Bootcamp with CompTIA Security+ certification for some time now. Why was it important to add the Certified Ethical Hacking (CEH) certification to this bootcamp?

Adding the CEH certification provides a widely-recognized advanced level of credential. . It validates advanced skills in ethical hacking, focusing on both defense and offense in cybersecurity. By including it, we’re responding to the demand for professionals who can proactively identify and address vulnerabilities before they’re exploited, giving Coding Temple students a competitive edge in the job market.

What is ethical hacking? What do ethical hackers do on the job?

Ethical hacking, also known as penetration testing or white-hat hacking, involves testing an organization’s systems, networks, and applications to identify vulnerabilities that could be exploited by malicious hackers.

On-the-job tasks include vulnerability assessments, network and application testing, and reporting findings, which are essential to preventing real-world cyber threats and ensuring data security.

Why is it important for career changers to get certified in ethical hacking?

Getting certified in ethical hacking provides a recognized standard of ethical hacking skills that are increasingly sought after across various sectors. For beginners, understanding the value and scope of certifications like CompTIA and CEH is crucial—read more in our guide on Cyber Security Certifications for Beginners. These credentials signal to employers that a candidate not only has a foundational understanding of cybersecurity but also possesses advanced skills to identify, analyze, and mitigate complex security threats.

How is ethical hacking taught in the Cybersecurity Bootcamp at Coding Temple

At Coding Temple, we teach ethical hacking through theoretical knowledge and hands-on lab work. Students have access to Capture the Flag (CTF) exercises and assessment tools that simulate real-world challenges designed to reinforce their knowledge. Our curriculum is structured to align closely with the CEH exam objectives, giving students plenty of exam-specific preparation and ensuring they’re fully ready to tackle the certification with confidence.

What is a question that students may see on the CEH exam?

One sample question from the CEH exam might be: “Which of the following is the BEST way to defend against network sniffing?” Options could include: A) Using encryption protocols to secure network communications, B) Installing antivirus software, or C) Other distractors. This question tests the candidate’s understanding of defensive security measures essential for protecting network integrity.

Tell us about the CEH exam! Will students take it from a testing center, or can they complete it online? How long does it take to finish the exam?

Students can take the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) exam in a way that best fits their schedule and needs — either at a certified testing center or online with a proctoring service. The exam is designed to evaluate knowledge across an array of cybersecurity topics, with multiple-choice questions, generally over a four-hour timeframe. This format allows students to showcase their expertise across a range of topics, from ethical hacking tools to strategies for managing evolving cyber threats.

How difficult is it to pass the CEH exam?

Passing the CEH exam can be challenging because it demands a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Some tips for success include consistent study, hands-on practice, and familiarity with the CEH exam objectives. Coding Temple provides students with all the necessary tools for success: exam prep resources, realistic mock tests, and immersive lab exercises. These resources are tailored to mimic the exam environment, allowing students to build confidence while mastering the technical skills required to excel on exam day.

Do you anticipate students will sit for the CEH exam during the bootcamp or after they graduate?

Most students will sit for the CEH exam shortly after they graduate. The intensive program is designed to build a strong, foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles and hands-on skills. However, dedicating additional study time post-bootcamp will  help students feel confident and fully prepared for exam day.

Does Coding Temple’s cybersecurity bootcamp tuition cover the certification exam cost?

Yes, the cost of the CEH certification exam is included in the tuition. We want to ensure that our students have everything they need to confidently pursue this credential without unexpected expenses. It’s part of our commitment to making cybersecurity careers more accessible and equipping our graduates with industry-recognized qualifications from day one.

What types of tech roles will Coding Temple cybersecurity graduates be eligible for, thanks to this added certification?

With the CEH certification, graduates will be qualified for many cybersecurity roles, such as:

  • Penetration Tester
  • Security Analyst
  • Vulnerability Assessor
  • Network Security Engineer

Entry-level salaries for CEH-certified professionals often range from $100,000 to over $140,000 annually, depending on factors like job role, geographic location, and prior experience.  With the growth potential in cybersecurity, these professionals can anticipate substantial salary increases as they gain experience.

What is your advice to incoming students on making the most of this certification?

To truly leverage the CEH certification, students should prioritize practical, hands-on experience with ethical hacking tools and techniques. We encourage students to actively participate in labs and simulations, as this builds confidence and technical expertise. Additionally, engaging with cybersecurity communities, following industry trends, and connecting with professionals in the field are very important steps to staying current and developing a robust skillset.
